Meet the Founder

At his core, Philosophers’ Stone founder Darren Smith is a clinician with a deeply compassionate heart. In addition to his role as Wellness Director for the residency program at the Southwest Healthcare Medical Education Consortium, Darren draws on twenty-five years of experience to provide essential therapy. He is dedicated to supporting individuals and helping them restore their families to a healthier, more balanced state.

Throughout his career, Darren has worked extensively with law enforcement, first responders, military personnel, and physicians facing personal crises due to the nature of their work and impact it has had on their mental health, including personal relationships. His extensive training in trauma and performance psychology has uniquely positioned him to meet the challenges faced by those in the healthcare field. Darren is excited and humbled by the opportunities in research, curriculum development, teaching and coaching he is involved in. He looks forward to the challenge of providing education and support on issues that challenge physicians in their own lives to create meaningful work, while providing compassionate care for their patients.

He is a native of Northern California and the Pacific Northwest who loves to immerse himself in the
outdoor beauty it has to offer such as hiking, skiing, kayaking, camping, especially jumping on his
gorgeous Harley. Speaking of gorgeous, he has a beautiful wife and 3 amazing adult children who
challenge him to be the best husband and father he can be.
